This is a highly recommended half day activity right across the Bay from us. Green Acres is a beautiful cocoa farm and tropical botanical garden located on the mainland at the edge of the jungle.
The owners, Robert and Julie, are very charming and knowledgeable and they will guide you and explain many things about the rain forest and its importance. They also highlight many medicinal plants used by indigenous people of the area. The grounds are covered with an amazing collection of tropical trees, plants and flowers. During your visit you have a good chance to see sloths, lots of birds including two different kind of toucans, hawks, trogons and parrots. Sometimes the howler monkeys are close by and if you pay attention to the grounds you will always find some really cool green and black poison dart frogs as well as other interesting lizards and geckos.
At the end of your visit you will learn all the secrets of chocolate making. Robert will show you his chocolate work shop while Julie will usually present some awesome concoction made of their chocolate.
Of course you will have a chance to purchase some pure organic chocolate products that also make for a nice gift for friends and family back home.
